The five virtuosi of Canadian Brass have made the brass quintet an exciting vehicle for serious concert music. The quintet — now in its 35th season — consists of new member Justin Emerich, trumpet, with Bernhard Scully, horn, alongside original members Stuart Laughton, trumpet, Gene Watts, trombone, and Chuck Daellenbach on tuba. The group has a long history of recording classical repertoire. They have a special affinity for Baroque music, which requires the brilliance and musical structure that has become the Canadian Brass’ trademark. Chuck Daellenbach- Chuck comes from a long line of German and Swiss musicians, and during his childhood in Wisconsin his father gave him daily music lessons. He left the Eastman School of Music with a Ph.D. at the age of 25 and headed north to teach music at the University of Toronto. His academic plans were derailed when he met Gene Watts, who had plans for a unique brass quartet - now a quintet with Chuck on tuba. --------------- --------------- --------------- Gene Watts- Gene's life is steeped in music. He grew up in a musical family in Sedalia, Missouri, where he listened to mostly dance bands and sat in with local jazz groups. He financed his music studies at the University of Missouri in Columbia with his Dixieland band, the Missouri Mudcats ------------- ------------- Stuart Laughton- Immediately following his tenure at Curtis, Stuart was appointed Principal Trumpet at La Scala Opera House in Italy, by Claudio Abbado. Stuart subsequently returned to Canada where he began a family and developed an impressive career. ----------- Bernhard Scully- Growing up in a family of musicians, Bernhard began playing the horn when he was eleven. Prior to the horn he played both violin and piano. In high school he lived in Minnesota. During that time he studied with Kendall Betts of the Minnesota Orchestra. He played with the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphony and the Minnesota Youth Symphony. ---------- Justin Emerich- Trumpeter Justin Emerich brings a wealth of performing experience to Canadian Brass, joining the ensemble in September, 2005. A native of California, Justin earned degrees from the Harid Conservatory / Lynn School of Music and the prestigious Juilliard School .. .... Greetings,

Instead of vowing to honor and obey each other, we should swear to aid and abet each other.

Human physiology does not direct all of its own functions; it is interdependent. It must be steadied by the physical presence of another. This is necessary for both physical and emotional health. In many ways, humans cannot be stable on their own—they require another to survive.

If a man does not make new acquaintances as he advances through life, he will soon find himself alone. A man should keep his friendships in constant repair.

But whether it be dream or truth, to do well is what matters. If it be truth, for truth's sake. If not, then to gain friends for the time when we awaken.
    --Pedro Calderon de la Barca

May all your storms be weathered,
and all that is good get better.

TODAY'S THOUGHT IS ABOUT MUSIC ...

hope it will have the SAME EFFECT on whoever listens to it."

Tears are the unspoken language of the HEART Canadian!

TODAY'S THOUGHT IS ABOUT TEARS ...

"TEARS speak MORE ELOQUENTLY than 10,000 tongues,

    MESSENGERS of OVERWHELMING GRIEF

    and

    UNSPEAKABLE LOVE.”

THE RAIN FALLS BECAUSE THE SKY CAN NO LONGER HANDLE ITS WEIGHT.

TEARS FALL BECAUSE THE HEART CAN NO LONGER HANDLE THE PAIN.

    Hi Canadian!

In Honor of Charles "Bird" Parker.

TODAY'S THOUGHT IS ABOUT MUSIC ...

"MUSIC is your own experience, YOUR THOUGHTS, YOUR WISDOM.

If you don’t LIVE IT, IT WON'T COME OUT OF YOUR HORN.

They teach you there’s a boundary line to music. But, man, THERE'S NO BOUNDARY LINE TO ART."

    ~ Charles "Bird" Parker

Charles "Bird" Parker is hailed as the greatest alto saxophonist of his time.  He played brilliantly, but his addictions to drugs and alcohol ultimately led to his untimely death.  Parker died of the combination of a heart attack, a bleeding ulcer, and pneumonia.  The coroner who recovered his body reported the death of a 50 to 60 year old man.  Charlie Parker was only 34 years of age.

    Happy New Year Canadian!

TODAY'S THOUGHT IS ABOUT A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION ...

                                         RESOLVE

to make AT LEAST ONE PERSON HAPPY every day, and then in 10 years you may have made THREE THOUSAND, SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY persons happy, or brightened a small town by YOUR CONTRIBUTION to the fund of GENERAL ENJOYMENT."

    ~ Sydney Smith

MAKING AT LEAST ONE PERSON HAPPY EVERY DAY SHOULD BE EVERYBODY'S RESOLUTION!  WE CAN DO THIS!

    Happy Saturday Canadian!

TODAY'S THOUGHT IS ABOUT HAPPINESS ...

"Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I — NOT EVENTS — have the power to MAKE ME HAPPY OR UNHAPPY TODAY. I can CHOOSE which it shall be.

Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just ONE DAY, TODAY, and I'M GOING TO BE HAPPY IN IT."

A SMILE can BRIGHTEN the darkest day Canadian!

    TODAY'S THOUGHT IS ABOUT A SMILE ...

"A SMILE COSTS NOTHING but GIVES MUCH. It ENRICHES those who receive without MAKING POORER those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it and none is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it.

Yet a smile cannot be BOUGHT, BEGGED, BORROWED, or STOLEN for it is something that is of NO VALUE to anyone until it is GIVEN AWAY. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give."

    PEACE BEGINS WITH A SMILE!

Have you reached your TURNING POINT Canadian?

THE THOUGHT FOR TODAY IS ABOUT A TURNING POINT ...

"I found every single successful person I've ever spoken to had a TURNING POINT. The turning point was when they made a CLEAR, SPECIFIC,  UNEQUIVOCAL DECISION that they were not going to live like this anymore; they were going to ACHIEVE SUCCESS.

Some people MAKE THAT DECISION at 15, some people make it at 50, and most people never make it all."

     ~ Brian Tracy

EVERY GREAT LEAP FORWARD IN YOUR LIFE COMES AFTER YOU HAVE MADE A CLEAR DECISION OF SOME KIND.

THANKS for being a DEAR FRIEND Canadian!

THE THOUGHT FOR TODAY IS ABOUT FRIENDSHIP ...

"I cannot even imagine WHERE I WOULD BE TODAY were it not for that HANDFUL OF FRIENDS who have given me a HEART FULL OF JOY.

Let's face it, FRIENDS MAKE LIFE A LOT MORE FUN."

    ~ Charles R. Swindoll
