REVIEWS

"Having made over 17 studio albums, played with, and fronted several name bands, I find the work of 'WINTER IN EDEN' of superb quality; a kind of metal Clannad.
With the right guidance these guys could be serious contenders."

Album Reviews

"The debut album from Winter In Eden is something of a revelation, the band stand out for their songwriting, their vocals and their musicianship. And they're British too! Musically the band come close to the sound of Delain but also include a folkish touch that makes me think of how Blackmore's Night might sound if Ritchie swapped the mandolin for a Strat. They also throw in a bit of a Celtic theme on the instrumental 'Windelfell'. There are many highlights on offer here: Stolen Fairytale is a bit of a stunner, melodic and powerful with some wonderful guitar and keys from Steve and Sam. They show an impressive sense of dynamic and considerable song writing skill. Every song on here is first class, and if the band continue like this they should do very well indeed. If you like well written, well played symphonic metal, check out Winter In Eden. 9/10"

Power Play Magazine - UK

"Awakening provides us with some serious gothic material. The music is contemporary, the vocal not necessarily the operatic but surely interesting and very talented. The remainder of the band is equally strong, keyboards especially. The guitars provide the metal flavor over the drums and indicate a strong metal direction. However, it is the song construction that is at the core of the WiE attraction. We get some seriously interesting music, over even more interesting lyrics. If you’re looking for lighthearted pop, go elsewhere. Winter in Eden is strong Symphonic Gothic. It takes its cue from some of the darkest music in the Female Fronted categories, but it does it with seriously strong metal capabilities. What they intended was a dark journey through the underside of human experience, one carried over a strong instrumental vehicle and delivered by a very capable female vocal, one that carries the message and delivers it as it was intended. And, in that, they have succeeded. 9.5 /10"

"......Vicky Johnson's incredible voice is certainly a contributing factor. No need to resort to operatic wailing when you can sing like Vicky. The music is good too. Keys are often used for atmosphere by bands in this genre, but WIE are not afraid to actually play them. Meanwhile, the metal guitar riffs are there in abundance and the orchestration works incredibly well."

Classic Rock Society - UK

"This CD is absolutely dripping with warm, gorgeous melodies, stunning arrangements and quintessential flair. I am actually suprised no label has snapped them up. Albums as wonderful as this one from new British bands do not come along every day. It has been a complete revelation to me."

Fireworks Magazine - UK

"The first thing that really impressed me about Winter In Eden, is their big symphonic metal sound that is prevalent on "Awakening". Also it is the excellent songwriting and musicianship that the band displays. The lead vocals performed by Vicky Johnson are quite impressive as well. Her vocals are clean sounding, but not operatic, yet she still exhibits a power, grace and range to her voice that really helps drive the songs. From the opening, pumping track "Oblivion" to the complex and conceptual closing duo of "The Awakening Chapter One: Introspection" and "The Awakening Chapter Two: Unspoken", there is a lot to keep the listener entertained. Other highlights include: "Inside", "Fate Will Oblige", "Stolen Fairytale", the Celtic tinged instrumental "Windelfell" and my favorite, "Alighieri". What you get on "Awakening" is 52-minutes worth of high quality and high caliber melodic metal. Fans of Within Temptation, After Forever and Sinergy should grow to love Winter In Eden. It is surprising to me that Winter In Eden have not been scooped up by some label yet. After listening to "Awakening", I’m sure it is only a matter of time. Rating – 85/100"

Femme Metal Zine - UK

"Their sound is not only quite affected and filled with inspiration, but of ever flowing emotion as well and has everything it requires to become a well-known band. Vicky's voice is highly expressive, holds a fragile strength of its own and breathes emotional depth in the compositions as it dances caressed by the affected keyboard/piano lines that evoke a bittersweet atmosphere. The guitars are quite heavy with interesting soloing moments and they form alongside the rhythm section the main musical structure which consists of the canvas upon which the keyboards/orchestrations/vocals will paint the sound colours that will make Awakening explode with ambience. They worked hard and this deserves applause to say the least. Adorers of female-fronted symphonic metal should contact the band in order to get a hold of the album; and remember this, one day Winter In Eden will be very big, no matter how commercial or easy-listening they might be in the future (I'm just guessing, not condemning), they will be big, after all, according to their debut album, they deserve it in the soundscapes upon which they set sail. 8/10"

Metalstorm.net - Switzerland

"Very much in the Within Temptation mould, rather than, say, that of Nightwish or Epica. That's not to say the album isn't heavy. Guitarist Sam Cull's guitar features heavily in the opening track, 'Oblivion' and his playing, both riffs and solos, is excellent throughout, as are the performances from the whole band. This is a very enjoyable album from the off, but the more I play it, the more I find to like about it. The album sounds terrific and I own CDs by much bigger bands that have had huge budgets lavished on them that don't sound this good. And you also have to pay tribute to the packaging which puts the efforts of certain major labels in the shade. This is a really good album, for a British band at the level they are and considering this is a self-financed release, it more than holds its own against most other bands in the genre this side of Nightwish. A very impressive debut album and one that showcases a band who could really make some waves in the future."

Live Reviews

"Winter in Eden opened on Saturday at the 2010 BMAD Bike Festival and turned out to be an inspired choice, excellent musicianship and beautiful, haunting melodies overlayed with stunning vocals from Vicky. The size of the crowd grew as they realised they were witnessing something special, a band that sounds equally as good live as they do on their recorded material, not an easy feat to achieve but W.I.E. do it effortlessly. Couple this with a visually outstanding stage presence and this band deserve to get to the very top. Have I booked them for next year? You bet your life I have.

Andy Hobbs, Band Co-ordinator,BMAD Bike Festival

"Absolutely superb on Monday night. The entire show; sound, lights, appearance, was 1st class and very professional. It was...........unreal"

"In Winter In Eden, we might just have a British band with the potential to mix it with the Dutch and Finnish giants of the genre."

"To be perfectly honest, this is one of the finest bands within the genre that I have witnessed live (UK or European based!!)."
